It was the end of an era at the Joint Staff Headquarters today. In a grand and emotional ceremony, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), bid farewell to his uniform, capping off a distinguished military career spanning 40 years.
The special event was a star-studded military affair, attended by former CJCSCs and top brass from the Army, Navy, and Air Force, all gathered to honor the outgoing General.
A Heartfelt Tribute to the Brave
In his final address, General Mirza was visibly moved. He started by thanking the Almighty for giving him the strength to serve the nation with "dedication, professionalism, and selfless devotion" for four decades.
But he didn't make it all about himself. The General paid a glowing tribute to the Armed Forces, praising their unwavering sacrifices. He took a special moment to pay homage to the Shuhada (martyrs) and their families, acknowledging that the peace of the motherland is built on their sacrifices.
"National Defense is Non-Negotiable"
Switching to a sterner tone regarding national security, General Sahir Shamshad Mirza highlighted the current global situation. He stressed that in today's complex geo-strategic environment, a strong national defense is the most essential pillar of security.
Sending a strong message to friends and foes alike, he reaffirmed:
"The nation's defense remains impregnable, and our valiant officers and soldiers stand ever-ready to make it even more formidable."
The Grand Send-Off
Earlier in the day, the General received a fitting welcome. Upon his arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters, a sharply dressed tri-services contingent presented a Guard of Honour, marking the beginning of a dignified farewell for a man who dedicated his life to the country.
